National Elite coming to National Harbor, Prince George's County, Maryland |
National Harbor is on its way to
becoming the premier destination for visitors and residents to Prince George's
County and the Washington, D. C. region.
National Harbor is therefore an engine of economic growth creating both
direct and indirect business opportunities and jobs. The creation of economic
growth in turn could provide additional revenues of for local government
services and programs such as libraries, health, schools, and safety.
As a new and dynamic center for
the hospitality and tourism industries, National Harbor will soon welcome the
newest addition to Chicago-based Entertainment Cruises
Washington, DC Metro based fleet—the National
Elite. Like its sister ship Capital Elite which is based in Washington, DC, the
new National Elite provides a "private yacht for a meeting, networking
event, celebration or any other unique gathering".
The target market for the charter
yacht consists of residents in Prince George’s County, the DC Metro area,
Baltimore, tourists traveling to the area who may be looking to sail out of
National Harbor and any conventions being held at National Harbor. Operating
year-round National Elite will be a first-class amenity expanding the menu of
reasons to come here to Prince George’s County rather than some other
jurisdiction.
The arrival of
the National Elite will create as many as ten new restaurant-related and
marine-related hourly positions. In addition, the National Elite is expecting
to add two salary positions to the workforce in the county. Entertainment Cruises will add extra routes and deliveries for
their current vendors, many of which are based in Prince George's County.
The National
Elite plans to look for locally grown produce in season from its nearby
neighboring Prince Georgian farmers, and we expect to hear more about this as
the ship comes to its new home at National Harbor. This is a perfect branding
partnership that will increase economic development in the county.
The National
Elite is hoping to host a charity event this summer and as a director of the Community
Foundation for Prince George's County, I am
predisposed to hope that the company will reach out to the Foundation as it
looks for a partner and collaborator.
We in Prince
George's County are committed to the idea of being the premier hospitality
destination. This cimmitment happened when we first agreed to the development of
National Harbor. Now we need to continue to work with the economic development
engine and encourage the addition of world-class businesses like the National
Elite and the jobs they bring to our community.
